Appraisal Services

The appraisal process has been designed as a reasonable alternative dispute resolution tool that is used when a disparity in the value of a claim occurs between the carrier and policyholder.  Managed properly, appraisal should be a process of thorough investigation, proper evaluation, and skilled negotiation that culminates with both sides feeling they had fair input into the final decision. While not always achieved, the ultimate goal is a win-win situation that values the policyholder, but also respects the business rights and integrity of the insurance carrier.

At CatManDo, we believe that good appraisers must be expert in causation analysis, they must know and thoroughly understand many different insurance policies and have superior estimating skills.  To be an effective appraiser, you must evaluate each appraisal based on not only on the damage presented, but also the “common good.”  Excellent appraisers must also be skilled negotiators that understand the importance of managing the scope of work and set the proper ground rules with the other side, so they maintain control of the appraisal. Our unique blend of claims management experience, utilization of technology and investigative methodology insures that the appraisal process is done properly and fairly the first time. While our goal is to represent the best interest of our carrier, we also understand and respect the carrier/policyholder relationship. For more insight into our philosophy about and value we place on appraisal "done right" please view this informative presentation Before During and After Appraisal   that contains tips and insight into the appraisal process.

Each year, CatManDo appraisers collectively conduct over 350 appraisals, keeping us current on the day to day issues that arise and the best ways to manage the process. Only our most competent, seasoned and specially trained professionals handle carriers’ appraisal work. Currently, the CatManDo team consists of 5 active appraisers and a manager/coordinator to providesupport. Unfortunately, many firms treat appraisals like regular claims. We recognize that appraisal work is a separate process that requires a distinct set of skills. As a result, we have created a separate unit and a management structure that allows the appraiser to remain an “unbiased and disinterested party,” yet supports the appraisal process, allowing us to dramatically reduce the time to settle an appraisal. And unlike many solo practitioners, our appraisal team routinely undergoes quality reviews, sharing methods and information to maintain industry best practices.

Our main goal is to be “prepared and informed” in order to determine the real extent of the damage. While we utilize technology to create comprehensive estimates, we also do not discount our experience and creativity to solve a problem. Our appraisers are always prepared to go the extra mile. For example: we’ve been able to fairly settle a damaged tile floor by finding matching tile when it was reported that the tile no longer existed. In another case, due to market conditions, we were able to repair a structure (to the satisfaction of all parties) with licensed contractors and original equipment for 37% less than industry accepted software had estimated. Dedicated and experienced appraisers doing the work they love, with adherence to strict field tested standards, makes CatManDo uniquely qualified to handle your appraisal work.
